Understanding water ionizers
Water ionizers are countertop or under-sink appliances that run tap water through electrolysis to produce water with a higher or lower pH. Enagic, a Japanese manufacturer, sells machines of this type under the Kangen Water name, and a group of its independent distributors opened an authorized retail store in Las Vegas in February 2017. This site is an informational guide to the topic and to what that kind of store has offered. It is not the store, it does not sell anything, and it does not give health advice.
What a store like this offered
Based on the archived pages, the Las Vegas location was designed as more than a place to buy equipment. Visitors could:
- see how an ionizer works and taste sample water;
- look at supplies and accessories approved by the manufacturer;
- bring a machine in for cleaning and servicing;
- attend training sessions, seminars and larger events for people involved in the company’s direct-sales network.
Things worth knowing before you buy
Claims about the benefits of alkaline or ionized water are made largely by manufacturers and sellers, and independent research is still limited. If you are thinking about a machine, compare prices and warranties, ask what the maintenance requirements are, and speak to a doctor before changing what you drink for health reasons. Our article on pH levels and your water explains the basic science.
